If you’ve ever deep-cleaned your home and still felt like something was off, you’re not alone. There are a few commonly forgotten cleaning spots that can collect dust, grime, and allergens without you even realizing it. Keeping these areas clean not only makes your home look better but also improves air quality and reduces allergens. Let’s talk about three sneaky places you might be forgetting to clean—and how to tackle them efficiently!
1. Inside Your Window Sills
When was the last time you actually opened your windows and looked at the inside of your window sills? This is one of those areas that collects dirt, dust, and even dead bugs. Over time, moisture from condensation can create the perfect environment for mold and mildew.
How to Clean It:
- Use a vacuum with a crevice tool to remove loose debris.
- Spray an all-purpose cleaner (like this one) and let it sit for a few minutes.
- Wipe it down with a microfiber cloth or my favorite rubbermaid reveal for stubborn grime.
- For extra freshness, add a few drops of essential oil (like these) to your cloth before wiping!
2. Ceiling Fans
Out of sight, out of mind—until you turn on your ceiling fan and dust starts flying everywhere. Ceiling fan blades collect a surprising amount of dust, which then circulates into the air you breathe.
How to Clean It:
- Place an old pillowcase over each blade and gently pull it off to trap the dust.
- Use a damp microfiber cloth with an anti-dust spray (like this one) to wipe down each blade.
- Don’t forget to clean the base and motor area where dust loves to accumulate!
3. Baseboards
Your baseboards work hard—they collect dust, pet hair, and dirt from everyday life. Cleaning them can instantly make your home look fresher and brighter.
How to Clean It:
- Run a dry microfiber mop (the BEST) along your baseboards to pick up loose dust.
- Use a magic eraser (here is a good set) or damp cloth with mild soap to wipe away scuff marks.
- For an extra touch, rub a dryer sheet over the baseboards to help repel future dust buildup!
